Wispa Gold

A while back, when I posted my painting Snickers, I said I might paint more chocolate bars. So, here is another one, titled Wispa Gold for an obvious reason.

Pure gold?

I painted Wispa Gold in a very similar way to Snickers. This time, to help emphasise the ‘gold’ in the title, I made the upper background a deep shade of yellow. For that, I used Winson & Newton Raw Sienna, if you’re interested. For the yellows in the wrapper, the pigments were Quin Gold, Cadmium Yellow, and Gold Ochre.

Colour contrast

I figured that the painting would start to work once I’d added the purple elements. As yellow and purple are opposites on the colour wheel, they provide maximum colour contrast, placed together. But in fact, it wasn’t till I outlined the lettering with scarlet paint that I felt the thing really got going.
