Outsider is one of many still life paintings featuring cherries and glass that I’ve produced in the last two years. I love doing them. Most of my cherry paintings are similar in feel, though no two are identical. I aim to make each one different.

The new touch in Outsider is that the background is strongly coloured. I used a mix of Gold Ochre and Cadmium Orange to achieve it. Previously, the backgrounds were neutral in colour and fairly dark in tone. I like the new look, if I say so myself.

The cherries are Cadmium Red, with Chromium Black added to darken them.

I’ve described the methods I used to paint Outsider on my Blog page. The three related posts are Stages 3, 4 & 5 (14th January 2018), Stage 2 (4th January) and New Year (1st January).

Unframed watercolour painting.
Painting size: 8.5 x 11.8 inches / 21.5 x 30 centimetres.
