One of my favourite harbours for painting is at Dysart, near my home on the coast of Fife. The place recently featured as a backdrop in the filming for the television series Outlander.
These small boats, dinghies I think is the technical name, were tied up at a floating stage at the very back of the harbour. There, on a calm day, the water was totally still and as blue as ink. I just liked the way the dinghies fanned out around the stage – I thought this made an interesting pattern. I used a limited palette of blues and browns to impart a harmonious feeling to the scene.
