What? Has it really been 3 months since my last blog post? That’s odd, nobody has complained. Oh well, at least I can offer a modicum of news. So, here goes…
The annual subscription to my website host came up for renewal earlier in November. To be honest, I was in two minds about keeping the site going, as the fee is a major outlay. After much prevarication, I stumped up. Consequently, people will have to put up with me for another year.
My site host, by the way, is Siteground. They’re very good – I’d recommend them.
If you’re connected with the art world, you’ll probably know that painting sales have dropped off the scale this year. That’s definitely true in this part of the world. Art is a luxury, of course, and there’s not a lot of money around in these straitened times. (Although you’d get a different impression listening to the extravagant spending promises of the main political parties in the UK general election.)
Fortunately, I did manage to sell a couple of small paintings at recent exhibitions. That was enough to keep me going.
Plans for the future
The pundits seem to agree that promotion via Instagram is the way for aspiring artists to go. There’s a good article by the Abundant Artist if you’re interested. So, hoping to raise my profile, I’ve dusted off my Instagram account @kenyoungart and started posting there again. Not just posting, but using Instagram to connect to the wider art community.
I plan to set up a second Instagram account which will feature my line and wash work like the small drawing shown above. The new account will be called @kenyounglineandwash. Don’t try to visit it now; I haven’t posted anything yet… maybe in a couple of weeks.
I’m also thinking about signing up with the Daily Paintworks site again. I had some success with them back in 2015 and 2016.
Both the line and wash stuff and anything I do for Daily Paintworks will require me to get off my backside and do some painting!
